When The Colony Police SWAT team raided a home on Alta Oaks Lane last month, they had no idea just how many dead and living animals they would find after serving a warrant: 88 dogs, cats, turtles, snakes and pet mice along with the remains of 22 dead animals.

A couple from North Texas is facing multiple criminal charges after investigators said they found animals living in deplorable conditions inside their home in The Colony.

After more than 25 years of working together, Long Beach Animal Care Services is ending its partnership with spcaLA.

"While this contract termination may seem sudden, I want to be clear that we did not make this decision lightly," City Manager Tom Modica said.

The well-known nonprofit has long partnered with the city for animal adoptions. Officials are now accusing the group of shirking its responsibilities, leaving taxpayers to pick up the costs. SPCALA calls the accusations retaliatory and frivolous.
