DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WRIC) — According to Dare County, N.C., all Hatteras Island areas (Zone A) are under a mandatory evacuation. Visitors are being asked to leave by Monday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m., and residents are asked to leave by Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 8 a.m.
Dare County officials declared a state of emergency Sunday evening as they say Hurricane Erin is forecast to bring life-threatening impacts to the Outer Banks.
