The Allen County Highway Department began pre-treating main problem roads today with calcium chloride to reduce ice build-up, with staff expected to work through the night to cover the storm. The City of Fort Wayne Street Department also began pretreating main arteries with liquid brine.

A powerful ice storm is set to affect the Midwest and Northeast of the U.S., bringing treacherous conditions, including freezing rain, sleet and potential power outages. Meteorologists warn that travel disruptions and hazardous road conditions will be widespread from Wednesday into Thursday.

States to the north will see the brunt of the ice storm heading to the Midwest this week. Kentucky will see mostly rainfall and thunderstorms.
