Three people died from floodwater in McDowell County, County Commissioner Michael Brooks confirmed in a livestreamed news conference Tuesday.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — Clendenin Fire Chief Kevin Clendenin says when he looks back on assisting in the rescue missions from the recent devastating flood waters that hit Southern West Virginia, there’s no way it can’t tug on his heart strings.

According to the release, Senior Trooper K. M. Saddler conducted a death investigation and identified the deceased as an occupant of a silver Chevrolet Silverado that had reportedly been driving in high water and washed into the Tug River on Sunday, February 16. The truck was located a short time later in the water near Coney Island in Welch.
