A Wisconsin couple are suing Walgreens and Optum Rx over their son's death, claiming he was unable to afford a sudden spike of cost in his asthma medication. The suit was submitted in federal court by William and Shanon Schmidtknecht of Poynette, Wis. on Jan. 21, a year to the date that their son, 22-year-old Cole Schmidtknecht, died.

The lawsuit alleges the pharmacy benefits management company violated state law by raising the cost of the medication without a valid medical reason and failing to provide 30 days' advance notice of drug price increases.
