A dispute over Pokémon trading cards erupted into shocking violence outside a GameStop in California, leaving one man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being bashed in the head and stabbed with shards of glass.

While Pokémon fans waited outside the GameStop store to buy cards, a man identified by Colma Police Department as Miguel OrellanasFlores, 49, allegedly cut the line, resulting in a verbal argument with the victim. OrellanasFlores allegedly struck the victim in the back of the head with a glass mason jar.

Pokémon tend to sell for an obscene amount online, both because of the price gouging spurred by scalping and the sheer ludicrous worth of some “special illustration rare” and
