The magnitude 2.4 earthquake was centered near Paramus, according to the USGS, and occurred around 1 p.m. It comes more than nine months after a magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook Tewksbury Township and surrounding areas.

People as far away as Connecticut, Massachusetts and North Carolina reported they felt shaking Friday afternoon.

A 2.4 magnitude earthquake rocked Paramus Friday afternoon, Jan. 24, the United States Geological Survey (SGS) confirms. The USGS says the origin is just east of Paramus. Residents in North Jersey reported feeling a major tremor just after 1 p.

Hundreds of people reported feeling some weak shaking to the USGS with some as far north as Poughkeepsie and even into some parts of Long Island.
