A small Mexican navy plane carrying eight people on a medical mission crashed Monday near Galveston, killing at least two people.
Eight people were aboard the Mexican military aircraft when it crashed near the Galveston Causeway on Monday afternoon, leaving at least five dead.
The NTSB said the investigation into what caused the crash that killed NASCAR legend Greg Biffle may be lengthy but the plane's black box has been recovered.
Four of the eight people aboard were Navy officers and four were civilians, including a child, Mexico’s Navy said.

"The initial point of impact was a runway light stanchion located about 1,800 feet from the runway threshold," said Senior Air Safety Investigator Dan Baker. "The airplane subsequently impacted trees, two other runway light stanchions and the airport perimeter fence short of the runway threshold before coming to rest near the runway threshold."
