The meteors, per the American Meteor Society, are active annually from around Oct. 2 to Nov. 7 and can each streak up to 148,000 mph.

Clear skies and a moonless night mean people across the UK have a great chance to catch the impressive Orionid meteor shower streaking across the sky after midnight.

Thanks to the new moon on Oct. 21, this year offers some of the best Orionid viewing conditions possible, unless, of course, clouds or city lights interfere, the American Meteor Society notes.
