LONDON — After wrapping up a straight-set win on Centre Court, Novak Djokovic ran into another 38-year-old in the Wimbledon locker room. Gael Monfils, who was born about eight months before Djokovic and is the only player in the men’s draw who's older, was waiting for the start of his second-round match.

Novak Djokovic knows he's now the elder statesman at Wimbledon. Djokovic, 38, reached the third round of the grass-court tournament for a record 19th time on Thursday after beating unseeded Briton Dan Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0. In his post-match interview, he used that fact to joke about his age and his younger rivals.

Novak Djokovic expressed pride in his performance Thursday, telling the crowd he "executed perfectly" in a 107-minute sweep of Daniel Evans, which helped him advance to Wimbledon's third round a record 19th time.
