There was his shaky, 36-pitch inning against his old team on Opening Day. He had disasters in Detroit and Tampa, along with a walk-off loss in Pittsburgh.

Luke Weaver, who took over as closer last September when Clay Holmes faltered, will get most of the opportunities to finish tight games.

I tell our players all the time, you make a career at this long enough and you’re going to face some challenging moments, you’re going to face some adversity along the way and the good news for Devin is he’s got everything to get through this and come out better on the other side,
