A 10-month-old child in Assam has been diagnosed with human metapneumovirus (HMPV), the first case this season. The child is undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, and is stable.

HMPV cases in India: Days after HMPV infection cases were detected in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, etc., another case of the virus has been detected in Assam. A 10-month-old child tested positive of HMPV after he was admitted to the hospital with cough and cold symptoms, reported PTI, citing officials on Saturday.

hMPV typically affects older adults and infants, according to a TOI Lifestyle report. In older individuals, the symptoms can range from mild to severe and usually include cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, and shortness of breath. Fever and fatigue may also occur.

Assam has reported its first case of Human Metapneumovirus detected in a 10-month-old infant. The infant has been admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and the doctors said his health condition is stable.
