STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The New York City Health Department has confirmed the first known human case of West Nile virus on Staten Island this year. The case was detected through routine blood donation screening, according to statement from the agency.

FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. - West Nile Virus is back. St. Luke's University Health Network is reporting its first case of the year, and the health network says it could also be the first in the region.

A second person has died of West Nile virus this summer in South Dakota, according to the state Department of Health's dashboard. A total of 16 human cases had been reported statewide as of Aug. 8.
