Travis County prosecutors will retry Austin police officer Daniel Sanchez in the 2022 shooting of Rajan Moonesinghe after jurors failed to reach a verdict last year.

Austin Thompson, now 18, pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree murder for the 2022 mass shooting in Raleigh.

On Wednesday, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced it would move forward with a retrial for Daniel Sanchez, an Austin Police officer accused of deadly conduct.

Court returned at 2 p.m. The prosecution showed photos of the victims who were killed in the 2022 shooting, along with those who were injured.

There have been seven full days of testimony in Austin Thompson's sentencing hearing, and the judge is expected to issue his sentence on Friday.
