No. 18 Youngstown State holds a distinction that no other team that has faced No. 1 North Dakota state does: the Penguins lost to the Bison in a one-score game. NDSU defeated Youngstown State by eight.
The Penguins, who entered a +26.5 point underdog according to ESPN, racked up 371 total yards of offense while scoring the most points against the top team in the FCS all season.
The Youngstown State football team dropped a close game 38-30 to top-ranked North Dakota State at the Fargodome Saturday.
North Dakota State and South Dakota State. Two I-29 FCS heavyweights renew their rivalry for the Dakota marker. It’s power versus power. Pride on the line and playoff stakes are in the air. Last year,
North Dakota State’s Cole Payton and Youngstown State’s Beau Brungard were worth the price of admission alone. Yes, football is a team game but if you didn’t leave Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome thoroughly entertained by the QBs,
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - North Dakota State quarterback Cole Payton rushed for four touchdowns and racked up 380 yards of total offense to lead the top-ranked Bison to a 38-7 victory over South Dakota State in the annual Dakota Marker game before a Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium record crowd of 19,477 Saturday night.
Certainly, Youngstown State is foremost on the minds of Payton and Beschorner with the two nationally-ranked teams set to clash at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. “You just stick to your process and attack your process and not worry about anything other than what’s in front of your face,” Beschorner said.
Payton was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference offensive player of the week after accumulating 291 yards of total offense in the win over SIU. He was 13 of 16 passing for 243 yards and a touchdown while running for 48 yards and two more touchdowns. It was his second Valley award in the last three weeks.
Maybe there’s a feeling of “been there, done that” with these two teams now. But SDSU and NDSU both bring new wrinkles to Saturday's game
North Dakota State was pushed for a full four quarters for the first time this season and when the smoke settled, the Bison held off Youngstown State 38-30 before 14,607 fans. The win kept No. 1-ranked NDSU unbeaten at 9-0, 6-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
