Dangerously hot conditions hit states up and down the West Coast over the weekend, owing to a persistent heat wave stretching from the Pacific Northwest to California and the desert Southwest.

A heat wave hitting the West, sending temperatures soaring past the century mark, is expected to persist into the weekend, with the most intense and prolonged heat expected in the Desert Southwest.

SEATTLE — Residents of the western U.S. are sweltering in a heat wave that’s already hospitalized some as temperatures will continue to hit dangerous levels throughout the weekend in Washington, Oregon, Southern California, Nevada and Arizona.
