Inter Miami have won the club’s first MLS Cup, beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on Saturday at Chase Stadium, with the winner coming on a Rodrigo De Paul goal in the 71st minute.

Messi joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023 and immediately helped the club claimed its first-ever trophy in the cross-border Leagues Cup. In 2024, Messi won his first league MVP award and led Miami to the Supporter’s Shield (best regular season record), but the team was upset in the first round of the playoffs.

The 2025 MLS Season officially ended with Inter Miami winning the MLS Cup for the first time in their history. Inter Miami took down the Vancouver Whitecaps, NYCFC, FC Cincinnati, and Nashville SC. One of the matchups many MLS fans wanted to see play out in the MLS Cup final was Inter Miami against LAFC.

Ironically enough, it was Vancouver who ended Miami’s ambitions of winning the 2025 Champions Cup with a 5–1 aggregate semifinal victory in April. Messi’s first taste of the competition in 2024 was ended at the quarterfinal stage by Mexican outfit Monterrey.
