For the past several months, the Trump administration — along with conservative journalists and social media influencers — have repeatedly claimed Portland’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement building is under siege by “rioters” and that “riots” are a common occurrence at the site on the South Waterfront. But the facts don’t bear that out.
The admission comes as the White House faces a series of legal challenges in its efforts to deploy guard troops in Portland, Los Angeles and Chicago, Democratic-led cities where it has intensified immigration enforcement and crowd control tactics by federal agents.
