Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo got his Spartans in shape this season, and his efforts were so good in East Lansing that he was named the 2024-25 Big Ten Coach of the Year.

Michigan State’s Tom Izzo was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fourth time, among the other conference awards announced Tuesday.

In 30 years as Michigan State’s head coach, Izzo owns a career record of 733-300, with his 360 Big Ten wins — and counting — the most by a coach in conference history. Izzo’s 11th conference title tied Indiana’s Bob Knight and Purdue’s Ward “Piggy” Lambert for the most in Big Ten history.

Since he became the head coach of Michigan State in 1995, Tom Izzo has accomplished a tremendous amount of success. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer surpassed Bob Knight when he set the record for the most wins at a Big Ten program (663) in men's college basketball history in 2022 before earning his 700th win in 2024.

To go along with his championship, Tom Izzo has officially been named the 2025 Big Ten Coach of the Year, winning the highest honor a head coach can win in the conference.

On March 7, the Boston Bruins traded Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Casey Mittelstadt, Will Zellers, and 2025 second-round pick. Overall, while it undoubtedly was tough to see a longtime Bruin like Coyle go, they got a solid return for the Weymouth, Massachusetts native.
