Michael Pezzetta is living his childhood dream. Several hours after signing a two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs carrying a $812,500 annual average value, the 27-year-old Toronto, Ontario native sat in his childhood room at his parents' house thinking, "How crazy is this?"

On the ever-present quest for a DNA change, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ offseason has gotten off to a slower start. It should be noted that championships are never earned in the offseason, and often many of the biggest deals of free agency’s opening days fall short of living up to the hype.

The Maple Leafs have signed free agent forward Michael Pezzetta to a two-year contract with an AAV of $775,000, league sources told The Athletic’s Chris Johnston. The depth forward was a sixth-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2016 and has spent most of the past four seasons in Montreal.
