So much of my textile work begins with what is found. Rather than starting from a sketch, I let the shapes of fabric offcuts direct the design. I’m often asked how I became a textile artist-I am completely self taught and as you can see here, I learned by creating cards embellished with fabric and buttons before becoming bolder and teaching myself how to paint. I tried different craft methods and used leftover scraps from patchwork projects. By 2004 I had progressed to creating pictures and gained in confidence. However I still felt like an artist imposter and my first exhibition was nerve wracking! #throwback #development #selftaught #
