On this day in January 1945, 45 Commando advanced through Holland in an operation to push the German 15th Army across the rivers Roer and Wurm. In 1978, a team of Royal Marines from 45 Commando executed a spectacular "death slide" (zipline descent) from the top of London's Tower Bridge as a public demonstration of their cliff-assault techniques. The 150-meter descent was featured on the BBC children's program Blue Peter, with presenter Simon Groom also participating in the daring stunt.
