Earth’s axis is not perfectly steady. It slowly moves in space because of the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun. 🌍✨ Over a long period of about 26,000 years, the axis traces a giant circle on the celestial sphere. This long term motion is called precession. But the line is not smooth. Because the Moon orbits Earth every month in a tilted and elliptical path, the axis also makes smaller, faster movements known as nutation. These shorter wobbles happen on time scales from days to years.
